ALAN OGDEN REPORTING
Seniors News Bulletin
1. There are some slight changes regarding future Seniors competitions. From now on for all Tuesday competitions we should book our tee times online. On the occasions when we have our reserved time from 9.30 to 11.30 we will continue to have these times reserved for us but now to book online. Recently we have more than filled our allotted spaces and to ensure everyone is able to play we can also reserve times before 9.30 am although these are also available to non seniors. The tradition that the Seniors Captain goes out first is discontinued although it may be reinstated when he is playing with guests(Captain, President, etc.) At the moment the online tee reservation becomes available on the morning of the Tuesday preceding the competition so next Tuesday 27th April you will be able to book on for the First Round of the Matchplay Qualifying Competition on May 4th. You will not need money to book on, just pay your £2 to the professional when you pick up your card.
2. The League season has already started for some clubs and the first results should be attached although we don’t start until May 12th. However, our Bernard Butler team of Dave Holyoake and Vinny McPartland have played and won their first round match and after a close game succeeded in beating a strong Old Links pair on the 18th hole.
3. Club AGM Just a reminder that this is next Friday, April 30th. There are 3 seniors seeking election to council this year and considering we have little representation for such a large section of the club at the moment I think we should support them if possible. I know AGM’s are not the most exciting of events but I hope as many as possible will come on Friday. The council this year has not been very generous to our requests, perhaps with more seniors on council we might have more success.
4. Walking Wounded It is good to have Peter Cottam walking a few holes with us after his knee operation. He seems to be making good progress. Phil Hurst will be out of action for a little while – he seems to have torn a muscle in his shoulder and he did it playing golf. Dangerous game! Cliff Bowman is also out of action again with a torn muscle in his leg. John Cottrell has finished his chemo and radiotherapy and is now waiting to see if an operation is necessary. George Murphy has not been in touch since he got home from hospital but if he reads this perhaps he will let me know how he is progressing. We wish them all well and hope it won’t be too long before they are all back playing with us.
