REVISION OF OUR DRESS CODE

For a trial period of one year (to take into account all seasons) your council have decided, with immediate effect, to relax the Club House dress code.

Smart jeans will be permitted but members would not be expected to wear work jeans. Casual shoes will be permitted provided they are smart. We should aim to provide an atmosphere where all members and their guests are made to feel welcome and comfortable in their surroundings.

You will not be surprised to know that the decision to relax the code was not unanimous but it was supported by the vast majority of your council. Furthermore, the proposal was only put forward after a great deal of consideration was given to the pros and cons of such action. We are not suggesting that everyone should ‘dress down’ and indeed many members will continue to follow previous dress codes that have been in place at our club over many years and that is fine.  Our dress code is still to be based very much on ‘smart casual’ as a minimum.  Furthermore, our evening functions will still have their individual dress codes for the evening and Jeans will only be acceptable where Smart Casual is specified.

The difference in dress will highlight the diversity and freedom of members to spend their leisure time in the manner in which they feel most comfortable. We hope these changes will provide an environment where members, their families and guests, plus our visitors are made to feel genuinely welcome and comfortable rather than breaching a dress code that, whilst appropriate when it was drawn up, is no longer in touch with modern trends. Some other local clubs have already adopted a similar policy with very positive reactions.

For the avoidance of doubt, this revision to the dress code applies only to the clubhouse and the no jeans rule will continue to apply out on the course.

We hope that the membership will support this decision and would welcome all written feedback during this trial period, when we will be monitoring any unacceptable interpretation of these revised rules.
